The sun is already our main source of energy
At Suprametal we care about the world around us. Proof of this is that anticipating the energy problem we are experiencing today, back in 2016 with an unfavourable and complex legislation we were encouraged to install 182 photovoltaic panels with a total of 48 kWp on our roofs. After almost 7 years since then, the balance has been fully satisfactory, achieving an energy self-sufficiency rate of close to 25% all these years.
We have managed to reduce our net CO2 emissions by 32% since 2016 by investing in renewable energies and applying energy saving strategies. As a result, we have already saved a total of 78 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The current legislation can still be surpassed, but it is now more on our side. Time is proving us right and it is clear that if we want to obtain a better world, we must change and focus on improving what is in our hands.
We have set ourselves the challenge of achieving carbon neutrality or, in other words, net emissions equal to zero, moving forward once again so that our factory operates only with renewable energy. For this purpose, this February 2023 we have added an extension consisting of 145 latest-generation photovoltaic panels, which allow us to increase the existing 48 kWp by 68, adding up to a total of 116 kWp, which will bring our energy balance to around 80%.
With a total of 327 photovoltaic panels, we expect to generate an annual production of 130,000 kWh, whereas our total consumption in 2022 was 160,000 kWh. In 2023, it is very likely that we will have an energy balance of only 30,000 kWh away from neutrality.
The sun’s rays captured by our panels are transformed into clean electricity that we use during production processes, and if there are kWh left over (this is often the case at weekends) they are fed into the grid, thus benefiting society and our planet.
The 9 advantages of using photovoltaic solar energy
Although this energy source involves a high initial investment and runs the risk of being weather-dependent, it has many advantages for businesses, individuals and the environment.
- It generates electricity to supply all consumption needs.
- It is a clean, inexhaustible and renewable energy.
- Solar photovoltaic energy is abundant and within reach of everyone.
- It does not have to be transported, it is generated where it is going to be consumed, avoiding transport losses.
- It helps to combat pollution, as it does not emit CO2 gases or any noise.
- Its maintenance is minimal, an annual review is sufficient.
- It is an increasingly cheaper and more efficient technology.
- Solar panels can last around 30 years.
- Free energy after amortization.
Solar energy does not emit greenhouse gases, so it does not contribute to global warming, making it one of the most efficient renewable technologies in the fight against climate change.
